The last memory before her death as she lay on the cold hardwood floor was that of the first dance they had attended as a newlywed couple, she remembered how his breath had been a constant warmth on the base of her neck. She stood in his arms, overflowing of champagne could be heard as her eyes closed in relaxation. Nik leading her across the dance floor with a firm hand on her hip, the scent of her husband overwhelming all senses just as it was the moment she realised death was facing her again.
Her true loves name on her lips as she gasped her last breath, her entire body convulsing before becoming still.

The second person able came across was a blonde female who had been the first person to welcome her with a smile, Caroline felt that she was safe with her and that together they shared an unspeakable bond.
The third she looked to had been a gentleman she guessed to be close to her in age had been looking at her as if she was the only person in the room but with a hint of mischievousness in his eyes which made her blush slightly. Pulling the sheets further around her body she tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear that had fallen from out of her ponytail. Before she'd even had time to continue looking around the room and the people in it she felt her body being tucked into the females arms, something Caroline welcomed.
As the third man entered into the equation she removed the bed sheet and instead folded it up and places it besides her. Looking up at him she felt a sisterly bond that she hadn't felt with the other two, this bond felt more familiar the more the man she know knew to be Elijah spoke. Taking a seat as requested she took into consideration what he had just said.
"If I have no memories as you say then how do I know that my name is Caroline, I am a vampire and also married." Lifting her hand for emphasis.

“Enough Rebekah.” His attention now back to Caroline. “You know you’re name, you know you’re a vampire and you know you’re married. Is there anything else you remember?” He had several cover stories to explain why that ring could have been on her finger but Elijah wasn’t the type to lie and given that her mind was still in the stages of piecing things together, the last thing he wanted to do it twist her memories. It wouldn’t inspire much trust
Coming out from the background and having enough of these games, Nik pushed to the forefront past Cole until he was close enough to block out everyone else in the room. “Come with me Caroline. There are places I want you to see, things I want to show you…”
At that point the sentence was cut short but a bemused Cole. “Blah blah blah. She’s probably hungry. I say let her come with me, we’ll feed, party and be back before you know it. Right Caroline?” Nik proceeded to bite his tongue but that didn’t mean his anger wasn’t evident in his eyes. He was simply one stage away from shaking Caroline and telling her how much he loved her but what would that prove? You can’t tell someone you love them. You can’t tell someone you’re married. This was everything Caroline had to piece together herself and when she was ready, Nik was prepared to tell her everything and share those memories.

Caroline shook slightly at the tone of authority Elijah's voice now held. Listening intently to his next words she thought carefully at the question. All of a sudden she felt a tightness around her eyes, hiding them as she placed her face in her hands. Once she felt them return to normal Caroline looked up before answering him with a simple no. A part of her wished to cry but as she looked at the siblings that feeling slowly started to disappear.
Before she'd even thought about what to say she watched as Nik barged his way to the front where Cole stood. Worried to a certain degree of what was to come from us sudden movement. However she couldn't have guessed that Cole would do the same, goading Nik which confused her. All this time she had thought Nik could be her husband but could it be that Cole was. Shaking her head in confusion, feeling anger at the things Cole was saying she again felt a tightening around her eyes. As it overcame her senses she super sped to Cole, placing one hand around his throat and pushing him with force against the nearest wall, her grip tightening.

Elijah didn’t notice Niklaus’s reluctance to help simply because he didn’t expect him to. Careful with words as he was proudly renown for, Elijah was clever enough to introduce them all by first names. It was an experiment to see if Caroline could remember or sense the fact they were family and not just friends. An experiment that was made irrelevant by the fact she had pinned Kol to the wall. Within seconds of her grip tightening Elijah got between them and pushed Caroline away. There he stood staring at Caroline was an air of concern while Kol adjusted himself. “Enough Caroline. Hurting Kol will not help anything.”
Rebekah laughed. “Oh I don’t know, seeing Kol have his ass handed to him is entertainment enough for me. Right Nik?”
Nik had no sense of amusement in his voice. If anything he could feel the anger surfacing with all the thoughts of what he’s going to do once he wiped every last Lockwood off the face of the earth, “I’ve had enough of this.” And with those words Nik flitted with all his speed, wrapping an arm around Caroline’s waist as he bolted them out the door.
He must have taken them miles away from the house before stopping in the centre of a forest on the outskirts of Mystic Falls and near a river that held way to a small waterfall. Although completely beautiful under the moonlight the waterfall served its purpose to block anyone from listening. Not completely but enough to throw off anybody who tried to fallow, particularly his siblings. When they stopped there was a brief moment where Nik and Caroline’s eyes met. Unable to look away as their faces were barely inches from one another, her scent, the way she felt in his arms, everything about her enthralled him like a drug he could never resist. “I had to get you out of there.” Nik said softly. For someone known to be nothing but a monster, here he was holding his one weakness he had in his arms.
“I’ve always been selfish and they were trying my patience.”

One minute Caroline had been stood in the Mikaelsons study and the next her body was flushed against Nik's as they together left the mansion the home a blur as she held tightly onto him. Again a familiarity present in her mind. As they came to a stop Caroline took in her surroundings, taking a deep breath at how peaceful this place was and wondering why Nik had chosen this place in particular, she liked to think his choice was for a reaso. At that moment she realised his hand was still on her waist, an action Caroline welcomed just like she had with Rebekah's hug.
"I do not believe you to be selfish. I'd like to think I know a good man when I see one."

“There’s so much I want to show you. Memories to rebuild, places to see….” And he meant every word of it. Memories just as strong as the last time and the time before that. Only this time Caroline had to work her feelings out first. It could take minutes, it could take years but Nik was determined to prove no matter what happens, the two of them always find their way back to one another. It seemed almost anger provoking that Rebekah and Elijah wanted to test his wife’s heart without telling her the whole story as soon as she wakes up. In the past had Nik sat down and explained everything to Caroline, showing her their rings and taking her into glimpses of their past through his eyes. Now he had to hold back just to prove what they had was real. Ironic.
Remembering this and the talk him and his siblings had over Caroline’s memories, Nik in true gentleman fashion, took his hand from her waist. It took every part of him not to kiss her, pin her against the nearest tree and show her how much he wanted her. It sheer thought caused that little smile to curl at the corner of his lips. “Now that you’re away from the others, the night is yours.”
Inquisitiveness playing a heavy part on his mind, Nik started to wonder if she would still fall for a monster. Far from being a saint, Caroline had seen him on his darkest and most destructive of days and yet she still worked her way past Nik’s walls. She didn’t give up. Would seeing him at his worst effect how she felt now with no memory of them?
“Of course I can always take you back to pinning Kol up against the wall?” Nik smirked.

"I would go anywhere with you, with you I know that I am safe, Nik." Caroline let out a gasp at using his name shortened, when they had first been introduced Elijah said that his name was Niklaus. Out lo ud she repeated his name. At that moment his hand slipped from her waist and she suddenly felt herself becoming upset at the loss of contact.
Smirking with him for a second Caroline laughed. "I should not have done that."
